Join OzFish and the Border Ranges Richmond Valley Landcare Network for this year’s annual Riverfest & Gone Fishing Day, an event you don’t want to miss!
FREE EVENT - Lunch provided. BYO fishing gear.
Inspired by the ABC series Eat the Invaders, join us as we dive into the world of carp.
With a focus on a talk unpacking the environmental impact of this invasive species, including how carp affect waterway health, disturb sediment, and compete with native fish like the endangered Eastern Freshwater Cod.
Then, around the fire, Ash Castle, OzFish Project Officer and former chef, will show you how to turn this carp into a surprisingly tasty meal. Taste test included! Everyone will get to sample a variety of carp recipes and take home recipe cards to recreate them in their own kitchens.
After learning from Ash, head down to the Richmond River with the OzFish crew to start fishing! Details about the location will be provided upon registration on the day. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. You’ll have the entire weekend to post your monster catches, with entries closing at 5pm on Sunday.
To enter, simply scan the QR code on the back of your recipe card and upload a photo of your catch on the OzFish brag mat (provided). Every entry goes into the draw to win prizes for both the largest carp and the highest number of carp caught.
Please note you have to attend the event to be eligible for prizes.
