Boodahbee - Festival of the Koala

 

‘Boodahbee - Festival of the Koala’ in Kyogle occurs annually in throughout September.

Through a series of events the festival explores and celebrates Koala conservation efforts occurring across the Kyogle LGA.

Boodahbee is the Gulli-bul word for Koala and is a culturally significant animal for this bio region.

Events

  • Thursday 17th August Sounds of the Bush: Science in the pub event in Kyogle. This event will explore how we learn from, and respond to, the sounds of the bush and will carve a path for citizen scientists to be part of a catchment wide wildlife monitoring program deploying monitors across the landscape and analysing the data. Thursday 17th August, 2023

  • Sat 16th September Koala Art Workshop : An Art Workshop with Rebecca Tapscott. Create a Koala painting; Make a clay Koala. All materials provided. Cost $25

  • Sat 16th September Introduction to Koala Rescue : Presented by Linda Swankie FoK Kyogle Coordinator

  • Tues 19th September Koala Walk : A casual 2 hour walk on property known as Koala habitat. Learn to identify signs of Koalas in the landscape and recognise the characteristics of Koala habitat.

  • Sat 21st September Acoustic Monitoring training in Kyogle

  • Mon 25th September Health of Koalas and their Habitat (incl BMAD impacts : Workshop with speakers at Cawongla

  • Wed 27th September Community Supported Tree Planting : Come get your hands dirty and help plant trees in a grander plan of a 4000 tree corridor planting supporting both Koala habitat connectivity and improving fish habitat.

  • Fri 29th September Koalas and Cows: Fencing for conservation and stock : Field Day at Green Pigeon

  • Sat 30th September Plant & Fungi ID Bonanza : Drop in to all or any of a full day of talks on plant ID - Weeds; Rainforest; Eucalypt; Grasses; Forest Floor; Fungi

  • Sat 30th September Crazy Koala Trivia Night: A night of fun and trivia. Test your knowledge of all things Koala
